Why we need a spiritual guide

How to Rely Upon a Qualified Spiritual Guide

In general, we readily acknowledge the need for a teacher when learning a new skill, or a therapist to help us with personal challenges. Yet many hesitate when it comes to recognising the need for a Spiritual Guide.

How important is it, in our study and practice of Buddha’s teachings, to identify and follow the guidance of a spiritual guide? Once we understand its importance, how do we recognise a valid spiritual guide for ourselves? How can we develop that relationship, and ensure it is authentic, healthy, and truly nurturing of our extraordinary inner potential?

The spiritual path inevitably takes us into unfamiliar terrain within our own mind. This terrain is fascinating, sometimes challenging, and ultimately transcendent — eventually leading to full enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have someone who has already walked this path to guide us along the way?

In this day course, Senior Buddhist Teacher Chelvi will explore the purpose and qualifications of a spiritual guide. She will lead meditations on how to rely on a qualified spiritual guide with wisdom and maturity. Drawing on stories from past practitioners, as well as reflections on her own spiritual guide, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Chelvi will help us appreciate and deepen our understanding of this most meaningful relationship.

Held in Canterbury at the beautiful Wootton Hall, surrounded by nature and offering opportunities for gentle walks between sessions, this day meditation course provides a supportive space to slow down and reflect deeply on this meaningful aspect of the spiritual path. You will enjoy a delicious vegetarian lunch and refreshments as part of the day.

In this peaceful, natural setting, you can relax, reflect, meet like-minded people, and nurture an inner confidence that will support your spiritual journey.
